Identification of pure silk and rolled silk

Objective: At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• identify the pure and rolled silk by burn test method.

Requirements
Materials
• Pure silk fabric - as reqd.
• Rolled silk fabric - as reqd.

PROCEDURE

TASK 1: Practice identification of pure silk by burn test method
1 Take a small, inconspicuous piece of the silk fabric

2 Burn the piece of the silk fabric by light the fabric with
a flame.
3 Observe that, if the piece is Real silk burns slowly,
smells like burning hair, and leaves a brittle ash.
4 Write the observation in the Table 1

5 Get it checked with instructor.

TASK 2: Practice identification of rolled silk

1 Check the texture of the given piece of silk if uneven Silk Texture Weave
this a rolled silk
Rolled silk Uneven Criss-cross
2 Check the weave of the given piece of silk if criss-
cross then it should be the rolled silk.
